You have to rip apart the motor to change the head gasket. Don't do it. Don't go fixing things that aren't broken.as close as I can figure, it was the belt hitting the plastic on the timing cover, I have since tried to adjust the tensioner, but I'm guessing its worn out and will have to be replaced.
since I also need tranny seals, I am wanting to pull the whole engine/tranny and start over, clean the bay and hide my wires better.
also thinking a head gasket would be a great idea.
I am going to have to bring it in to get done I think because by the time I have money for parts it will be -30 below zero and I got no garage.
I was thinking if I had as much stripped off the car as possible I could save some cash at the shop.
lol but if your luck is the way you say it is, you or who ever unbolts the head wrong and warps it... then what?yeah, but with my luck I'll get the timing belt fixed for a week and blow the head gasket.![]()
it is indeed the opposite sequenceYeah you can warp the head if you don't unbolt it properly.. I'm pretty sure it's the opposite of the torque sequence but I can't remember for sure.
I wouldn't change the head gasket unless you are already having problems with something else.. B16a's are pretty strong engines I doubt you'll have issues with a head gasket going bad. And the rest you should be able to do in the driveway over a weekend.
