like strawberry plants... lol i haven't weeded that area so i didn't take an pics. the chipmunks ate most of them. i had 2 or 3. they were sour.... overall, a bust. next year, i will build a chicken wire 'dome' for that area. I don't really have problems with birds... it's small animals (chips, squairrels, skunks, etc) that end up eating some of the berries. I'm going to try the pie plate thing once the crows start to harass my corn.

so far, our garden is a bust.
plenty of stuff growing, and growing well, but the birds and bugs get to it first. need to find a good cheap, natural insecticide or something.

and the weeds. good god the weeds. didnt do a good enough job on killing them before planting stuff. now they rule the beds. going to completely cover the beds in plastic over the winter time to kill everything off before next spring. its all an annoying learning experience.

I got mine for under 20 bucks when I had my garden. What a life saver

Damn B that's a big ass garden.

We're on our 3rd year of gardening. We have 2 small raised beds, about 25 square feet each. We had planned to expand to a couple more beds and relocate to a different part of the yard, but we were too busy with other stuff to make it happen. Next year perhaps.

This year we have a few jalapeno plants, a couple cherry or grape tomatoes, not sure which, 2 varieties of cucumbers, one of which will become dill pickles, and I think 4 broccoli. Also a couple strawberry plants in pots on the patio. Need to come up with a better plan for those, although they were more of an experiment this year.

We had a couple of seedless watermelon plants last year, and in all honesty they weren't very good. They tend to overrun everything, and you have to water the shit out of them, obviously. I'm not a big fan of watermelon in general so I could really care less, but the wife and kid said it was kind of mealy and not sweet enough.

I'd like to do corn at some point, but I need to do some more research into it. My understanding is that you need basically males/females so they cross-pollinate, and there's a minimum number of plants you should grow. That would probably have to be an additional bed or two on it's own. I have a pretty large compost bin that we tend to regularly so good rich soil is never a problem.

This little old french man had the garden plot next to us, he said to get an action hoe. I was trying to not bust out laughing when he said it.

But the action helps

starting to get some stuff now. had a bunch of wax beans today. pretty good. a few cukes already went in my belly with Himalayan pink salt

Looking good. We just planted some tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, and basil. Last minute but it is a late season this year so hopefully things will grow. Plants were cheap so if they don't work not a big loss.
