My boss is selling a 77 280z for $500 in REALLY good condition. I am actually looking into the SR20DET swap for that car. Fucking yummy.....

Not a hondaswap, i know but I just wanted to throw that in there so

Surprisingly enough, look into the Ford 2.3 Turbo engine out of the Mustang SVO and Thunderbird Turbocoupe. They can make HUGE power, and take a LOT of boost. Especially after the 1200 dollar BILLET ALUMINUM head you can get for them.

I've got a '78 280Z named Cledus that will be my personal serving of humble pie to a great number of local muscleheads. Think 460CID Ford V8. Handling will be ass, but there aren't any road courses or auto-x events anywhere near me, so quarter mile it is.

and I've been hearing lately that those engines are absolutely bullet proof. It's almost like Ford didn't build the engine.

The downside is that a Mustang SVO is VERY rare and hard to come by in decent shape.

BUT, T-bird TurboCoupes aren't. And it's the same engine.

The problem with the SVO and TurboCoupe is it's this marvelous little motor... in a Ford chassis. Half the TurboCoupes/SVOs you see have little or nothing wrong with the engine - it's a problem in the chassis.

My last sentence was meant to talk about the problem being the body, not the engine. I rarely see any TC either. They might be more common in the larger cities, but I have never seen either an SVO or TCs.

I think they're more common on the coasts. I know of at least 4 TCs just in my little town of 30,000. There's also one (that I know of) daily driven SVO.

I know a guy who converted his 2G Escort GT to rwd and is currently running a built/turbo Miata 1.8 in it.

FWD he ran an 11 something or another but kept snapping axles. I'm not sure if he's got his new setup finished yet or not.

that's not really a-typical, since he's just using the RWD version of the same engine he had... but the conversion is a-typical and hard to do.

Its been done, however the hardest part has to do with the rear end.

I unno the turbo miata is sounding better and better, I have friend with a mazdaspeed miata running high 11s now... its sweet


hmm... of course there is the small blocks into the Zcars, and the miatas, and the RX-7s, and pretty much any light RWD car you could think of...

pretty soon I will be putting a 318 into my jeep... thats kindof weird, but they kindof already came with them back then anyway...

a couple of you were talking about the 2.3 turbo from the SVOs

I am here to tell you that 2.3 + gutted Datsun 510 + suspension work + bigger brakes + turbo upgrade = one of the greatest autocross cars I have ever driven... and I LOVE IT!
