hey everyone. what do you all think about those spoon chips on ebay? the ones that raise your redline to like 9000 and make your vtec kick in at a higher rpm? are they trustworthy?

Ebay chips are garbage.

You get what you pay for. Those chips are usually a very generic map. Spend the money right the first time and get your car tuned. The money you "save" on buying a cheaper chip will cost you more in the long run...

Very true, ebay chips, turbo kits, lowering coilovers, almost everything, thats ebay, made in tiwan is shit. Ebay has the name brand chips too, more expensive, but thats the good stuff. Or google in what you want, and get it from a reliable supplier with a good brand and reputation.

Perhaps I should rephrase--

The Ebay brand and Spoon chips off Ebay are garbage. You can find good quality stuff on Ebay.

I would find a local tuner and see what he can do for you. Any good tuner is going to be able to source what you need for him to do his job correctly.

If you're never going to use it then what's the point of buying it?

Anyway, you're missing the issue here. Let's say you buy one of these crap chips that raises your red-line to 9,000 RPMs. Do you have after-market valve train components that will allow you to safely rev to 9,000 RPMs? Do you have an after-market camshaft that will allow you to continue making power past the factory red-line? If the answer to either or both of those questions is no, then the chip is completely pointless. You'll only hurt your engine by revving it that high without first upgrading the valve train and camshaft...

Not to mention that a chip doesn't just let you rev to a higher redline, or eliminate the governor. It controls your fuel and timing.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Pay to have your car tuned. Otherwise, you are wasting your money and will blow your shit up.

eh, im with these guys, i would never buy a chipped out computer from ebay. try phearable.net thats where i got my chipped p28 from and i have not had any problems at all. plus you can either send yours in to get chipped or buy one from them. and how much is that spoon chip from ebay?

it was $30. it wasnt actually me asking that tho. i let my buddy get on here and ask that. i told him he was a tard for goin to ebay but he got it anyways. oh well we will see what happens. maybe i can still talk him out of it. lol doubt it
