Okay so i got my 98 ex and im putting my sytem in. I have moved my battery to the trunk and I plan on adding another. I was told to get a alternator that was 80amp.? Something about there made for two batteries? I have a optima yellow top right now. I was wondering what battery should I get for my second one? I was thinking of running two compaciturs, one for each amp. I was wondering if i could get away with one maybe? Im going to be running a 1500watt soundstream amp for my sub and a 1000 wat soundstream for my mids. so i was thinking put a spliter box up under the hood for the motor wires. run a 4 gauge wire to the trunk and into another spliter box. One side goes to the battery i have now. the other side goes to the one im getting. from the second battery to another spliter box, then off to the amps. Not sure if thats how it should go so anything helps

What kind of subs are you putting in? What size? What kind of box? What kind of mids.. I am assuming you mean a 4 channel amp with 250/channel for the mids..

If you are going for a system that SOUNDS GOOD, you may be going EXTREME overkill.

I've built systems that blurred your vision when the base hit, made your chest shake so hard that you could hardly breathe.. Hell, it shook you pretty damned hard anywhere within a 30 ft radius of the car. Broke the back window.. I even knocked a bunch of shit off of shelves at a flourist when I left my car running outside. I walked in and it was raining vases off of the glass shelves. DESTROYED MY HEARING FOR LIFE... what the hell would you want to do that for?

I did all that with less wattage than you are planning on using.

If you wanna have that big of a system you do need a capacitor, two only if you plan to use the bass really loud for a long period of time (more than a few minutes) on bass tests and stuff like that.

The other thing that you can do is buy an isolator for the second battery that makes one battery work for the stereo only, and the other strickly for the car, that way you wont hurt the cars electrical as much. You could ask about those at any big car audio shop.

The best type of batteries to use for car audio are deep cycles, (such as a optima yellow tops) they are made to be drained and recharged lots.

I have a yellow top right now for my normal battery. I have two 10'' MTX thunder 5500 in a slotted box. The mids are going to be sony 6-9's not sure of what ones yet and the fronts will be some what ever fit :p. Im trying to win some of those things you put on your shelf and look at and feel good about yourself. I mean why the fuck else would you want that much wattage? LoL

You will never need that much wattage unless you wanna damage your hearing or do sound competition.

I am only running 300W total in a 97 Accord and it is plenty loud and extremly clear as well.

Only running one JL Audio 13.5" W1 sub and a pair of MB Quart 6.5" Reference series up front and all this is running off a JL Audio 300/4 amp.

Its not all about how many watts your system is, it is really about the right choices of equipment that will work well together and give you the best results for your car.

obviously you're not a specialist, so we'll ignore the 10" bashing..

So now please list your components so we can figure this out:
Head Unit:
Fronts:
Rears(?):
Subs:
Amps:

what components do you already have? what do you think you'll get? what price ranges? what do you want out of this system?

Agreed

I HIGHLY recomend getting an isolator if your going to have two batteries. Also instead of 2 caps get one 5 frad cap. Its less then two caps. You many also consider getting a high output ALT. But why are you using all this power? It doesn't sound like you have the equipment that requires this much draw.
