i finished my b18cR all motor build, only took me a year
but ya, i had many unseen expenses, hell i even bought a new car because this one was so off and on. but she's in great running order now and ready for track duty. 
i say stick to it, if its only $400 more to get you where you want to be (from what other posts have said), i say do it. we all run into this kind of shit, just the nature of building your own shit.
