I have a 97 civic ex (b16a) I want to know if the pcv valve is nessesary.

Your car will run without it, but it's good to have a good working one.
It releases air and gases built up in your crankcase

You can always gut it. If you're after that.

It's good to have one and not just gut it. Your engine is designed to have some pressure(very little) in the block. Keeps crap out. If you applied vacuum to your block you would suck fine dirt and such in through seals.

I'm not sure why you would want to remove the PCV valve anyway. It does good for the car and it's not even in the way.

Im asking because I think i broke it and if it wont bather the motor why put it on.

They aren't very expensive, even from the dealer. They range in price from about $7-$15.
