Vtec engages @ 6k

you really need to give more information. what car? wha engine? what ecu?

but to throw out a random possibility, maybe you have low oil pressure and you dont build enough pressure to activate vtec til 6k. maybe your tachometer is off.

The earliest on a GSR i saw was 4200 and the latest was 5000 depending on WOT.

i have the answer. if its a gsr engine, then you are hearing the IAB's. when i had my IAB's still on my gsr, they were louder and more noticable then vtec.

if not then like B said, your shits fucked up

Exactly. The IABs open at just over 5800 rpm. That's what you're hearing.

The IABs basically allow your motor to use a smaller intake plenum at lower RPMs for better low RPM power, and a larger plenum at > 5800 rpm for better flow at higher RPM's.

   when are people gonna learn?

my girl has on 01 gsr, i believe it hits vtec around 4700...im not sure i dont drive it much and she dont go past 4500(what a waste)lol....she just has a short ram injen and her intake gets loud as hell at 6k

my vtec engages at 5300, any higher or lower and it is pure shit. get another ecu and see what happens. 4500 is stock GSR i believe, chipping is a poor man's tuning, get a e-mange, hondata, aem,. etc.....

B16 VTEC is 5800 GSR is 4400. if you have a B16 then its normal. stock tachs suck ass its really at 5800 when it hits though it might read 6K. ive seen a stock tach read 9K at 8400 RPMS
