i need another oppinion... i am trying to buy a 2000 Honda Civic Si B16DOHC Vtec for 2900 but the only problem is it needs a crankshaft. would this be worth it and how tricky is replacing a crankshaft going to be ...sooner the reply the better =) thanks

thats strange all it needs is just a crankshaft.....i would think if something on the crank was messed up there would be some other problems

thats what i was thinking also, but if he gets it and tears it down he will be able to see if something else is wrong

yeah i am just trying to point out....its a good possibility that its just not the crank that is screwed up

ya i am pretty decent and have some expierence on my belt with cars or hondas lol but the guy told me that a mechanic said it was a crank shaft and said it would be a 1000 dollar fix which i thought that was BS . it is stock so its hard to think a crank shaft would just go out...

well it could if it was ran really hard but like east said thats not the only thing thats going to be wrong with it

well if it is true it would require a little more work than belts require.....your going to have to be able to take the whole engine out of the car then you should be able to put in a new crank.......i just do not see why there is just something wrong with the crank and nothing else

regardless, a 2000 civic si shell is probably going to be more than $2900.

first, who diagnoses a bad crank?
second, if the crank is bad, i'm sure something else is bad.
third, b16 swaps are cheap, if the engine is bad, you could get an $8000 for $4,000 after the swap.
fourth, why are they selling it rather than fixing it? something should be a red flag there.

ya i see. well if in the end it was completed it could be worth well over 2900 with only 60,xxx miles on it...

i just find it really strange that a honda crank would have something wrong with it at 60,xxx miles on it....there has to be something else they are forgetting to tell you

it's a big difference between hiding and forgetting.
