uh.....right......how did this go so horribly off topic that we're talking about mutations and diseases? Whats next "do Xmen really exist?"

sickle-cell anemia came about becasue of a genetic deformity. the dna lost genetic code. how does it prove evolution, where did the organism become more complex?

lighter skincolor in areas with lower UV radiation (vitamin production anyone?)

this is only caused because our bodies produce a chemical called melanin. a person's gentic code has a preset amount of melanin that can be produced. when two people who have high levels of melanin production mate, their offspring will also have a high level of melanin production. the reverse is true as well.

but the question is, is this beneficial? does it really prove evolution? does the genetic code become more complex because it has to create more melanin?

the answer is no. it doesn't even effect reproduction, which is why white people can mate with black people and produce offspring. if it were evolution this would not be possible, because the weaker species would have to die off.

sickle cell anemia affords protection from malaria in the heterozygote. That is why it is more common in populations which come from equatorial Africa, where malarial incidence is high

Higher amounts of melanin protect against UV damage, which is why people in Africa have darker skin. However, vitamin D production requires Ultraviolet light, in areas where UV radiation is low, IE northern europe, skin color is generally light, to allow UV into the body.

Saturnboy, just stop, you're like a kid trying to prove the tooth fairy left the money under your pillow. Sorry to inform you, religion is the toothfairy, it's just a belief, there is even less evidence of the crap you're try to cram down everyones throat then there is of aliens. As a matter of fact, given the scope of the universe, "aliens" are a more plausible belief than some entity that created everything and then allows the things to happen that do. I mean really, try telling the two month old babies that get cooked in microwaves by their crackhead parents about your "god". Or maybe he just forgot about the starving children of the world because they were born in the wrong part of the world and christianity forgot about them, or better yet decided they weren't good enough to be "saved". Maybe you can explain your bullshit to the billions that have suffered over the centuries at the hands of dictators, kings, tribal leaders, famine, war, inhumane levels of aimless violence, that there is a "god" that loves man so much. Fuck that, crawl back under your sheltered little rock, and worship your fucking myth.

Now see I don't agree with yoru statements....thats BS telling him to stop. It's his belief, if you don't like it then don't believe it. but telling him to stop is just rude...

Time to get back to the real subject.....ARE WE ALONE????

the universe is to big to actually contain only one planet with intellegent life forms....I am a firm believer that the other planets that are classified as environmentally liveable, do exist......and other planets that are simular, but have richer chemicals in the atmosphere...can contain a life form that can evolve just as much as we did......and is it possible that we might have been visited by them?

Maybe the Adam and Eve theory might be correct...they were prolly just pets left behind as a study to the higher life forms that left them.....

Seeing that this post has made us think a little....

Some other topics to post would be......

Chicken or the egg...what came first?
Time travel...is it possible?
Space...did we really go to the moon....?

I think there is SOMETHING that started everything out. I dunno if it's name is God, or Lucy, or even Earl. Who knows. What I do believe in is the fact that everything was started and just developed, like God tipped the first domino on a HUGE table with domino's set up randomly everywhere. Many strains went on growing faster and faster, but many of them (dinosaurs, dodo, etc) didn't play out, and the last domino fell for that strain.

But, this would mean that you have a purpose in life (since an all powerfull being like God wouldnt tip a domino for aboslutely no reason). And if you have a purpose in life, you are responsible for your actions because you will ownely achieve your purpose if you act in a manner to achieve it.

I don't believe in fairytales, pegasus, budda, comics aren't real, santa doesn't exist, you can't eat a tablespoon of cinnamon in one mouthful, etc...

Then what would you call evolution, im not trying to flame you, but there really is no "proof" that we evolved - on the same hand, there is no "proof" aside from the Bible (which is discredited by evolutionists) that God created us.
This argument will continue to go on forever - Nobody has ever seen a species turn into another species, and the fossil record doesnt speak for evolution in the least. But then again, the Bible says that God reveals Himself through his creation - all that is around us, trees, people, animals - but even that cannot be considered evidence to an evolutionist, because all that stuff came from somewhere else, which came from somewhere else and so on . . . .

IMO it takes a lot more faith to believe in the simultaineous reaction of "stuff" (which must have come from some other reaction obviosly) that created a world in which WE exist.

well put... :worthy:

Sooo. Let's go into this side-street...

Let's call this the "StarGate" theory, also looked into very slightly in the movie "Titan A.E.", and also touched on in the "Hitchiker's" books by Douglas Adams, which are a joke, but hit on a very interesting theory...

"God" is actually a race of sentient beings... with HUGE planet creators housed in other much larger planet like factories... People, animals, and all the things we know are processed, and lackaged to be added onto the planet as an options package, much like the "power group" option package for a car.. Power windows, doorlocks, and cruise control.

Anyway, what if this is how things actually got started...

Just trying to stir up a little more thought processes... Because this would pretty much GUARANTEE that there is more than just us out there.

if you can think there is any basis kfor truth in that theory, for which no physical evidence exists, then why is it so much harder to belive that God created us all.

If God created us, then there must be a purpose for our lives. This means we are responsible to act in a way to fullfill that purpose, and that any actions we commit that are not designed to fullfill our purpose will be held against us by our creator.

Basically, if this is true, then that means people ARE responsible for what they do - and people hate the sound of that.

No, not really, it's called cause and effect. One thing happens and another and another, for example. When you go out in the sun, you get sunburned, then your skin gets darker, and next time you don't get burned as bad, you get darker, and eventually you don't burn, so now in a since, you have evolved (adapted) to a harsher enviroment. Do think that penguins always swam instead of flying? Did polar bears always have white fur? Where did polar bears come from? Do you think that they started out somewhere else, and over the course of the centuries, through whatever continential drift or migration, or whatever wound up where they are, and over time developed to better survive in their current enviroment? Guess what? that's called evolution. You see it everyday in animals that have adapted to survive in their enviroment. Maybe they had to because god said they weren't worthy enough to be "saved" by him. I guess the dinosaurs weren't either, or the dodo. Oh and god did a helluva number "saving" the Jews fom the Nazi's. So do buddist go to hell? What about Amazonian tribes? Did the native Americans go to hell too? I am sorry to have to tell you, there is a LOT more proof through science than there is in the bible, I guess you just have faith and your car goes forward right, no, it's called a process, and the machine that does it was made by MAN, not god. Man thought of it because he has a series of complex chemical reactions going on inside his cranium that produces thoughts, and ideas. When those chemical reactions stop, that man dies. It isn't a mystery, or a miracle, it's life.

so where did the universe come from? did man make it? no. did hitler suceed in destroying the jewish people? no. have the jews ever been completely destroyed? no. if you look at them in history, i bet they have had more wars declared on them than any other race in the world, ever. do you think that is just coincidence?

everything that has happened to the jews since the time of christ was prophesied in the bible. even the fighting that is going on in the middle east was prophesied about.
