I am so happy that my fiancee had to go to Texas today for a manager's conferance that ends on Sunday. And shit, my mom's house in Brownsville is probably going to get wiped out too. Just when the renevations were just about done, for sale. I am not happy about this.
[post=558055]Quoted post[/post]

have her leave early. conferences suck anyway.

as for b-ville, i have an office down there at the UofT and they aren't anticipating too much damange... i wouldn't worry unless you're north of corpis christi

breaking news!

Hurricane Rita becomes third most intense storm on record, according to National Hurricane Center figures.

holy shit!!

...RITA BECOMES THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE ON RECORD...

DROPSONDE DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE
AIRCRAFT AT 623 PM CDT...2323Z...INDICATED THE CENTRAL PRESSURE HAS
FALLEN TO BELOW 899 MB...OR 26.55 INCHES. THE DROPSONDE INSTRUMENT
MEASURED 32 KT/35 MPH WINDS AT THE SURFACE...WHICH MEANS IT LIKELY
DID NOT RECORD THE LOWEST PRESSURE IN THE EYE OF RITA. THE CENTRAL
PRESSURE IS PROBABLY AT LEAST AS LOW AS 898 MB...AND PERHAPS EVEN
LOWER. FOR OFFICIAL PURPOSES... A PRESSURE OF 898 MB IS ASSUMED...
WHICH NOW MAKES RITA THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE IN TERMS OF
PRESSURE IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN. SOME ADDITIONAL DEEPENING AND
INTENSIFICATION IS POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT 12 HOURS OR SO.

RITA CURRENTLY RANKS BEHIND HURRICANE GILBERT IN 1988 WITH 888 MB
AND THE 1935 LABOR DAY HURRICANE WITH 892 MB.

FORECASTER STEWART

898!!!!!!!!! katrina was what, 930mb?

The thing worries me the most is that it's in Dallas, pretty much right in that projected line.
[post=558063]Quoted post[/post]

ahh dallas... don't worry, thats far enough inland. it will be a cat 2 at best there...
probably only a cat 1 or just wind and rain...

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=dallas&spn=1...18.076904&hl=en

galveston is fucked.

Ya, Dallas is like 8 hours driving distance from the shore. Dallas is safe.

Fuck, I'm supposed to pick up my father at the airport in Dallas Forth Worth on Tuesday. I hate Texas! :-(

Page 4 owned! (sorry never done it before)

10pm update:

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 175 MPH...280 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. RITA IS A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ON
THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE LIKELY
DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 70 MILES...110 KM...
FROM THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP
TO 185 MILES...295 KM.

THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 897 MB...26.49 INCHES.
THIS MEANS RITA IS THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE IN TERMS OF
PRESSURE IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN.

897mb.

god damn.

that shit is vacuum y0. lol

Most Intense At U.S Landfall: 1935 Florida Keys 892 mb/ 26.35 in/ 140 kt
Highest Winds at U.S. Landfall: 1969 Camille 909 mb/ 26.84 in/ 165 kt
Most Intense Atlantic Hurricane: 1988 Gilbert 888 mb/ 26.22 in/ 160 kt
Longest as Category Five:* 1980 Allen 899 mb/ 26.55 in/ 165 kt

think it will drop below 892 or 888??? the bigest storm, EVER?

this shit is bananas

here's a pic of camille from 1969- the biggest/most powerful storm, ever

:werd:

You'll be fine. Projections are showing cat 1 by the time it gets to Dallas, and if it blows through Dallas on Sunday- you'll mostly just have thunderstorms left over.

Nowhere near 8 hours... maybe 6, 5 or less if you grew up driving in Texas. :D

Tuesday should be mostly clear. I'm flying out of DFW (I hope) on Monday morning, so we'll see what happens.

It's very possible- there's still a huge spot of warm water that Rita is supposed to run over (same one that beefed up Katrina) before it hits land.
