I spent 800$ in supplies. Plus the cost of a gun. It was more labor than anything though.

Thats a big fucking intercooler. Mighty low to the ground though might just be the grass.
haha. It does sit pretty low. I'm going to try and get it tucked up inside the car anlittle better this winter.

I havent had alot to say on your build or anything. But I am glad to see that you did not abandon it and are going to finish it to the end. Sometimes shit happens, more times then not. Must be murphy's law or something. But the important thing is to never give up on something that is your passion. Props for sticking through the hard times and getting it finished up!

:(

Well, already trashed that idea. I think the reason I was going to do it is because I was frustrated with the look of the paint at the moment. But.. I decided to pop and buy one of these:

CycloPolisher.jpg

I've read a million reviews on it, so far the general consensus is that you get rotary-quality results with a far easier and more comfortable to use machine. I'm excited. I bought the kit with like 5 different pad sets as well. Can't wait to hit my car with it... and I'm sure some of my buddies' cars too

Where did you get this polisher from? I am curious, I have never seen one before. I feel you on buffing black, it is a pita. Even with good dupont clear I have to buff that shit hard and get it hot to make it look like that. I usually wait at least a few days to buff fresh black to avoid burning the clear to make it look like I want.

Thanks mang, I'm glad to finally be almost to the end with this thing. At least all the hard work is done. I can't seem to get out of the driver's seat haha.. it's a blast to drive.

I got the polisher off of eBay. It's called a Cyclo polisher.. made by Cyclo tools inc. I did a lot of research on detailing forums and a lot of guys were saying that this polisher out performed their rotary polishers (makita, porter cable, etc) day in and day out, especially on black finishes.

In my experience with this thing, it's been nothing but excellent. I used far less compound, and the shine was 10x better than it ever was with the standard orbital. Well worth the $350 IMO. Here's the link to the exact one I got:
Super Cyclo Polisher Kit - buffer car foam buffing pads:eBay Motors (item 250392114279 end time Oct-14-09 13:27:20 PDT)

That kit comes with a LOT of pads. I bought it because it comes with the heavy cutting yellow pad all the way up to the white pad used for wax application.

If you're serious about having your car look great, this polisher is for you.
 Is there a front bumper that will clear that IC?
Yes, either an OEM one with the intercooler properly mounted, or a walker japan bumper.
i think he was looking into an airwalker or something like that, maybe BYS
Not sure what I'm doing yet. OEM bumper might be in the works, but a walker japan bumper is more likely at this point.

EDIT:
Ordering a new muffler today. It's either going to be a thermal 3" muffler, or an APEXi WorldSport2 muffler. I'm leaning more towards the worldport2 just because I know it is so quiet.

WS2 FTW!!! and they look semi stock, especially painted flat black

@ injen- I ended up going with the thermal.. We will see how that goes haha.

@ slush- the car had already been wet sanded. I had problems getting some of the scratches out with the other polisher I used, which is why I picked the cyclo up.
But to answer your question, yes I am using 3m heavy cut compound to cut and the machine glaze to polish.

pix of the thermal?
also im going to be doing single stage..any tips or advice??
like do i have to do all this postwork?

Pix when I get it on the car, which should be about a week. The only pic of it I can find online is with a bunch of their other mufflers.

Single stage is pretty much prep work, shoot it, done. If you do anything to it after the car is done you'll be taking off some of the finish (meaning color since its all the same in a single stage paint), whereas with a primer, base, clear system you'd just be taking off clear coat which is why I had so much work to do.

ah ok..so prep work it is...i started the bodywork like 2-3 days ago and plan on paint after xmas..so i should have enough time

That should leave you plenty of time to get everything straight. Take your time with it and it'll come out looking nice. The biggest thing with body work is patience. It can be really frustrating at times, trust me I know lol

Haha there were times when I was ready to slap For Sale signs all over my car, but I'm glad I stuck with it now.

Photoshoot tonight with my buddy's EG possibly.

BTW, his EG is basically my other car. We have gone through just about the same stuff on his car as mine, minus the exterior paint. His car is pretty damn clean too. Here's an idea of the build:

.020" over LS bottom end, B16 head
ebay mani for now
tial 38mm gate
garrett 60 trim t3/t4
2.5" exhaust
Synapse BOV

shaved & tucked bay too.. MMM

pics later if we do go out
