It's friday night, I was on the way to work, and then got stuck in a traffic jam, some body plowed into a honda and I don't think they needed the ambulances, but held up in the traffic so long, that it wasn't even worth going into work, so I head home. Still drinking coffee, so I'm up all night. I have a huge bottle of Sake and a small bottle of Awamori, and few beers to kill....but I'm reflecting on what my current situation is....
and I'm over my head now....
The house still needs work, the yard...the landscapers never came, so I got to get my $600 deposit back and find someone else to do the work. I did a job interveiw this week, and it looks very possible that I might get it. And to top it off, I got more car projects than I can shake a wrench at. 2 Z cars, race built, one CRX, race built(almost), a junk civic to scrap, and the subaru. I still have to pay for the new Z, but I gave the kid a box of F-15 cockpit guages and stuff, and he's throwing it up on Ebay, whatever he makes is his up to the price of the car...if he makes more, then he gets 20% for his fee...he wants 10%, but I'll give him 20%. I'm rolling in OT at work, but it's getting old already, the money is good, but I'm burning out. and now if I get this job....then thats it....everything will go up for sale.
I got to blab this job out...I can't take it anymore...
I applied for an in-country manager for Sik..and when I did the interveiw...it went like this. First I showed up in a suit that I haven't worn in years...5 years to be exact....and damn...I grew the wrong ways...I couldn't button the top button on the shirt, and the pants were a trick to get into...and I forgot that the tie had some stains and stuff...so I had to sit funny to not let my tie be exposed. I showed up to the interveiw, all decked out, fresh haircut, suit, and nothing to hand the guy...like a resume or something. Anyways, we shook hands, and he said its 90 degrees out and I can take the jacket off if I want, and I did...while taking it off...I mentioned how first impressions are very important....and the guy liked me automaticaly. He said thats what this job is about.
the job.....if I get it...
I will be living in Japan, prolly in Nagoya, and I will have to travel all over the country and get on the Japanese bases and introduce myself as a person to contact if there are problems with the aircraft, problems with mods, and I got to try to suggest other mods that will help their fleet for future activities. Japan makes their own Sik helo's, and Sik gets a royalty from each one built...and they can't junk them, or make more..due to the constraints from the old war treaty. So I'm going to be going all over the place to keep tabs on whats going on with their fleet, and send reports back to my boss. And he wants someone with a freindly American face, that can speak Japanese, travel around the country with no problems, warm up to the Japanese military officails, take them out to dinner/bars to get them to become more of an open contact, work with MHI, MIC, MC (Mitsubishi companies) to keep up the mods and licences that Sik needs...which is a lot of money, and I got to be an escort for when the company's big wigs show up for bussiness or vacations...
In essance, I'll be jumping on planes, driving a lot, trains, have a decent laptop, dressed in suits, have a corporate expence account, and will be salery...prolly in the 6 digit area.
out of 43 applicants, he threw out 31 resumes, and I was the first he interveiwed. The normal interveiw should be like 30 minutes, mine was for an hour and a half. So thats a good sign., and he said I'll prolly have a second interveiw to meet the big bosses, to see if they like my charm, and to see if I know my stuff. I also added to my coverletter that I emailed him, that if this job doesn't work out, than if he could find something for me to do over there anyways, to keep me in mind. He told me at the interveiw that he has a few other things in mind for me, but he first wants to see if I'll pass the second interveiw if there will be one. He also said that he doesn't want to even interveiw three of the other guys, because they are in Japan already. But he might do the interveiw for them over the phone. And he doesn't want a Japanese guy, because he wanted the American face thats recognizable for the Sik company. And of the few remaining interveiwee's, only a few are already with the company, the others are not, and most of them don't have any helicopter or maintenance experiance. I'm a shoe-in for this job.... the only thing I didn't have is the degree, but he asked if I had plans to go back to school, I said yes, if I can get the time...right now...no time with an old house to re-build, old cars to build, and working as much as I can to afford them...
Now, which Skyline should I buy first...the R31 with a huge turbo, or get the R32? or go with a decently built Stagea
/end friday night rant induced by coffee.....
