you obviously chimed in without doing any research on the subject. the united states is not a christian nation, therefore does not have to follow christian law. separation of church and state.
Ugh. I had forgotten people have trouble reading here. Where did i associate the policies of the US gov't with christianity? I was making an appeal to christians, nothing more.
why do we have the death penalty?
even though i stated it in my post on page 2 ill say it again. 2 out of 3 death row inmates has a prior felony conviction. 1 out of 12 death row inmates has a prior conviction for homicide. in 2004 their were 3315 inmates on death row. do the math, thats about 276 prior homicide conviction. hows that sit in your stomach that the death penalty is bad. but thats just numbers. let me put a face on it. ask cecil boren how he feels about the death penalty. Actually you can’t ask him. He was killed by Kenneth Williams after Williams escaped a state prison in Lincoln County on October 3, 1999. He then took Cecil Boren’s truck, but was apprehend after he was in an accident with it in Urbana, Missouri. An accident that took the life of a 24 year old delivery driver named Michael Greenwood. Why was Williams in the prison in the first place? He was serving a life sentence without parole for the 1998 kidnapping and killing of Dominique Hurd, a cheerleader at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and for kidnapping and assaulting Hurd’s date. he also admitted to an unsolved murder that same day. why did he admit it? mother fucker was trying to get clemency after killing 4 people.
Ok, and whats your point? is this a failing of the death penalty or prison security? Yes bad people are in prison, and sometimes they escape. The discussion isnt whether or not prisoners can escape and what they do when they escape, but the ethics of capital punishment. I mean really, if you are that concerned about crime and the safety of non-criminals, why dont you just espouse killing poor people, i mean after all, theyre more likely to offend.
and improportionally used on non-whites?
stop talking out your ass and do some research. Out of the 57 people put to death in 2005, 17 were Black and 3 were Latino. The remaining 37 were White. Out of the 59 people put to death in 2004, 19 were Black, 3 were Hispanic, and 1 was Asian. The remaining 36 were White.
Again, what does presenting some statistics mean? Do these numbers tell everything there is to the story? Im not going to bother quoting a ton of information as i know it is prohibitive towards getting people to read these things, so Instead all just point you here:
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?did=105&scid=5 . That aside, if you look at PROPORTION the proportions of those recieving the death penalty, they do not equal the proportions of the various ethnicities in American society.
Do me a favor and not only read things that are written, but reread them and think before you post. I feel obligated to respond because i dont think you understand, but there are better things i could be doing with my time.

The problem with keeping people in prison is that it's just so damn expensive.
Actually, given the nature of our criminal justice system it costs more to execute someone than to keep them in prison for life.
